How much is English riding gear? Helmets, pants and boots??

I don%26#039;t know if it matters but for Orange County, CA. Thanks

How much is English riding gear? Helmets, pants and boots??
If you aren%26#039;t interested in showing, you can just get some basic schooling gear. My Troxel schooling helmet was approximately $30, and it has lasted me several years and protected me through all of my clumsiness. If you DO want to show, you can always buy a velvet cover to put over the schooling helmet, which keeps you from having to buy a second one for showing.

The pants can be inexpensive or very expensive. Try looking for a tack shop that has a consignment area. I%26#039;ve found several nice pairs of breeches from consignment shops, but there%26#039;s no guarantee. If you buy from a catalog, look for knee patch breeches (synthetics and self patches are the least expensive) instead of full-seat--they%26#039;re less expensive, and I%26#039;d assume that they%26#039;re cooler in the summer. Once again, if you think you%26#039;re going to show, either get two pairs of breeches (which is a good idea either way) or buy one pair in a color that%26#039;s appropriate for the show ring.

Boots are probably the most expensive. I just bought a pair of synthetic tall boots for about $80. They don%26#039;t look bad, though; a friend noticed them at a recent show and complimented on how soft and supple the %26quot;leather%26quot; looked. However, other types (the custom leather ones) can skyrocket to $600 and up! A majority of leather tall boots are between $100 and $150 for a pretty good pair. If you aren%26#039;t planning on showing, you might want a pair of paddock boots (Usually only young children wear them in the show ring, but anyone can wear them in schooling.) and maybe some half chaps. If you want to show, though, just get a pair of tall boots and take good care of them.

If you%26#039;re planning to show, you%26#039;ll also need a huntcoat, a show shirt, a pin, and gloves. If you%26#039;re just starting out, though, I wouldn%26#039;t buy these and I%26#039;d wait for the signal from your instructor.
Reply:good helmet- $140

pants-$60

paddock boots-$30-100

field boots- $150-700

half chaps-$20-200

Don%26#039;t get field boots until you show.
Reply:Like pretty much everything else in the world, it depends on the quality of the product you purchase. You can get a cheap, no-frills Tipperary helmet for $60 or so, or you can take the plunge and get the ultra-sleek, super comfy GR8 by Charles Own for about $300. Some even venture up into the %400 range. Same with breeches and boots. Generally, in my opinion, Ariat paddock boots and clothing are the way to go if your serious about riding. The comfort and quality are unbeatable. I purchased my Ariat paddock boots for around $130, and I believe they are worth every penny.

But visit a tack shop near you. Explain to them what you%26#039;re looking for, give them a price range if you have one, and be sure to tell them how serious you are about this. Whether it%26#039;s just a weekend pasttime or showing on a national level, chances are the tack shop (if they%26#039;re any good) will have the appropriate attire.

You can also look in catalogs. Dover Saddlery and State Line Tack are the ones I drool over.

I hope you find what you%26#039;re looking for; good luck!
Reply:Get of your *** and go to a tack shop of google it

Reply:Well, I%26#039;m sure there are some tack shops close to you, so for your area you should go to them and check them out. Ask your trainer or fellow riders where they go. Also, online catalogs like Dover Saddlery and State Line Tack have a nice selection. Also, e-bay can be good if you know what you%26#039;re looking for. Also, make sure you try on boots and helmets because every brand fits differently...some boots run small or large, and all helemts do not fit all heads. If you are just starting out and just need schooling attire, you can get decent quality clothing at good prices. My estimates are:

breeches $50-$100(really cheap breeches just don%26#039;t last, you%26#039;re better off getting decent quality ones that won%26#039;t fall apart).

Boots, depends if you want tall(field) boots or short(paddock) boots...tall boots will run you around $150-$300 for decent quality schooling boots that you could probably show in at small shows(there are many options on tall boots such as zippers up the back to make them easier to put on and such), paddock boots will run you about $100 for a good quality pair such as Ariat, but you will also want half chaps(to protect your legs) if you wear paddock boots and they run about $40-$100 depending on style/brand.

A helmet can range between $30-$400, depending on if you want the latest style. Get a less expensive, but still safe, schooling helmet, then a nicer one for showing later so you don%26#039;t ruin your nice one.
Reply:Well, if you want to get fairly good brands go to a local Tack Shop and you can get breeches for 30-80 dollars, a helmet (i have a tipperary) could be 40-100+ dollars, my frst pair of boots were a pair of cheap of rubber riding boots that cost about 80 bucks i think, but u can also get a pair of feild boots and half chaps for about 100 dollars but they will last ALOT longer! If you want to spend more money then you can get a Greenhawk catalogue or buy horse magazines for more products and companies/stores!

Happy Riding!

Does anyone use boots instead of shoes for mountain riding.??What brand??? Thanks.?

There is about a 1/4 mile of gravel (logging road) then its nice soil. I have 3 horses but would prefer not to have to have all 3 shod if boots would work. Thanks.

no cj, this isnt the wrong section.

All my horses are put boots on when i trail ride. Unless its soft dirt. The boots are expensive but if you get GOOD boots they will last a long time. ive always used easy boots and so far liked them.

I use old mac boots... i love them... i%26#039;ve never had a problem with the horses wearing them... they do rub on one of my horses because his a tad to big... so its really important you get the right size... i only use them when i know we are going over some really hard ground... other wise they are just barefoot... here are some links... good luck :)

Reply:I keep my horse shod, I have never tried the boors before but I have tried a rubber/plastic shoes and they glue on or you can have your farrier nail them on as if they were a steel shoe, if they are to big all you have to do is trim the extra off. They are really good I have never had one of them to come off and I have rode through really think mudd, water, sand, gravel, very rough terrain and they are wonders on the black-top. Was it Charles Perrault or Rory Emerald, who authored - Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, and Cinderella?

It was Charles Perrault, because those books were all written before the great Rory Emerald was born.

Was it Charles Perrault or Rory Emerald, who authored - Little Red Riding Hood, Puss in Boots, and Cinderella?
Charles Perrault (I believe) wrote Cinderella and other fairy tales, though I think he (like the Brothers Grimm) often borrowed from popular folklore. Little Red Riding Hood was collected (by Brothers Grimm) from popular stories told by the people.

You can find out more about the origins of fairy tales here, it is a really great site: http://www.surlalunefairytales.com/index...

What type of boots should you get for riding a moped?

Anyone own a moped and if so, what type of boots do you wear?

What type of boots should you get for riding a moped?
Just get something that covers the ankle in case you crash.

You should not be going all that fast (100mph+) so you don%26#039;t need full motorcycle boots. If you are going, say over 60 I would get a motorcycle boot.

Alpinestars sells motorcycle shoes just for this. Icon also sells many women%26#039;s shoes that you might like.
Reply:Moto X boots at least 3 sizes too big, (just stuff newspaper in them to take up the slack !) Have a look at Bike Magazine , if they still have %26quot;Ogri%26quot; in it have a look at his friend Malcolm`s boots, you`ll get the idea

Hi! The difference is mainly in the height of the heel and the shape of the heel. Check the link below. It is a good explanation from one maker.

My daughter is starting horse back riding lessons and I was wondering what kind of boot she needs?

I was wondering would just any regular boot work?Or does it have to be a %26quot;riding%26quot; boot? Please help me out,I want to make sure she is safe,I found %26quot;riding%26quot; boots and they want like 200.00 for them,I would greatly appreciate anyone that can help me out! Thank you!!!

My daughter is starting horse back riding lessons and I was wondering what kind of boot she needs?
Normally, I wear plain ol%26#039; Justin Ropers which run $80-$90 a pair, depending on where you buy them, but if you go with the rubber sole vice the leather sole, they will cost even less.

The boot should give support yet be flexible enough to allow full movement. The real key is making sure the boot is not so rigid or bulky that it will cause her foot to hang up. I wear metatarsal boots with safety toes at work, but it would be almost impossible to dismount a horse without binding my foot in the stirrup.

Before you purchase the boots, be sure you discuss your choise with the instructor. Some schools and instructors are more strict than others and want both functionality and image. For example, a hunter-jumper school might not allow the western Justin Ropers that I wear while an English school that is focused more on pleasure than competition might have not problem with her wearing western boots.

Does anyone know a good riding boot for shorter people?

I am looking for a tall style riding boot but every one seems to be too high for me. I am only 5%26#039;0. does anyone know a brand that makes shorter riding show boots at a reasonable price??

Does anyone know a good riding boot for shorter people?
ARIAT.. i am young so i am still growing.. so i am still short.. its a bit expensive.. but they are long lasting... and depending on what sole you get they are very comfortable *ariat cobalt blue is most comfortable to me*
Reply:Well you could look at ariat. It is more expensive but worht it in the end because they last longer and they also come in a variety of sizes. Also consider rubber boots.
Reply:I%26#039;m 5%26#039;3%26quot; and have the same problem. For my show boots, I honestly just got my boots (Devon-Aire%26#039;s are my personal favorite) and wore them around the house constantly and polished until they got softer at the top so they would become supple and crunch below my knee to where I needed them to be.

For everyday riding, I just wear paddock boots and half chaps - so much easier, haha. I fear to wear out my tall boots because it is a pain to go through that process to be them to my proper height.
Reply:I know you used to be able to go to the State Line Tack section in Petsmart and get measured and they would order you a pair of boots that fit your measurements. Now that SLT is leaving Petsmart, I don%26#039;t know if they will do that anymore, but you can ask. If you order online you might be able to order in different lengths...just go to a store to find a boot with the right fit, then look online for the height.
Reply:I%26#039;m four ten and i have your same problem. Luckily for me i have tiny feet so with some work i can find boots that fit, but just barely. There really isnt a particular brand i would suggest. One thing you might try (although it is not as formal) is a pair of short ancle high boots and halfchaps. Some halfchaps can be very nice and almost look like tall style boots. I have even seen gran prix riders use them in shows. This gives your leg a little more mobility and alows you to fit your foot and your leg differently. I had a pair of long boots for a while, but they were just to long. I was hoping I would grow into them but I stopped growing in the 7th grade (sad i know). Now i just use my short boots and halfchaps. I suppose you could get boots custom made, but it would be extremely expensive. Alright, thats all I got. Good luck!
Reply:i would get short boots, and then half chaps to put over... still looks pro:)
Reply:Yeah, you%26#039;re right. You%26#039;ll probably need tall boots for shows. I%26#039;m VERY short for my age, and I buy a brand that I think is called Dublin.
Reply:If you%26#039;re riding at home, I would say use paddock boots and half chaps. However, if you%26#039;re showing and you need a field boot (tall boot), I would suggest trying either the Ariat%26#039;s or the Devon Aire%26#039;s. You could try taking them to a leather store and having them reshape the top of the boot. Or, if you have an unlimited budget, you could get custom boots. That%26#039;s what I ended up doing and I LOVE them. They%26#039;re expensive, but they fit wonderfully (obviously) and if you take care of them, they should last a long time. Good luck!! Hope I could help.
Reply:You don%26#039;t say whether you are looking for western or english. If you are looking for western boots I would suggest a brand of Ropers. They are low and have either slip on or lace up. For an english boot, I would look online. You will probably have to get a boot that fits your foot then have the top cut down by a shoe repair to fit your leg. This would work for english or western. Good luck!

What kind of hoof boots have you found best for trail riding?

I have a pair of plain old easy boots. I went on a ride this summer where two other riders had epoch easy boots that they had cut the gators, (or whatever the top part of the epoch is) off. One horse did fine, and one lost bolth boots, I kept mine the whole ride as well, so I guess it is operator error that made the one pair fall off. I guess the new style boot is no better than my old one, but I wonder how Old Mack, and Boa compair for horse comfort, and staying on. I would love to have something easyer to put on, but do not want to give up the secure fit.

What kind of hoof boots have you found best for trail riding?
I am a Easyboot Epic user. The other boots just won%26#039;t do for me and my horse because their fit and the amount of riding they are recommended for. no more than 25 miles a week... plus I needed a boot that can%26#039;t come off while I%26#039;m riding. The epics, when the gaiters are not cut off!, will not come off your horse and are much easier to get on and off than the regular easy boots. I%26#039;m disabled and can%26#039;t even bend my knees move well, and I can do it! The Easyboot website has videos of the duct tape trick, and even cutting the front of the boot down a bit. My amazing trick to get them on is hoof creme. LOL!

You can watch my very quick demos:

http://good-times.webshots.com/video/304...

http://good-times.webshots.com/video/309...

Now, four your other boot options... I tried the Cavallo (cheap plastic) Boa, and Old macs. Old Macs were by far the best of this type of boot. The Boa%26#039;s, I couldn%26#039;t get on, plus their tread was poor. That wire looked easy to snap and the dial slipped easily, and broke. (from other users) the OLD Macs had more tread and were easier to get on. Though all of these would rub in wet footing without pastern wraps, all were harder to clean up, and none coudl be used as much as the Easy boots.

IF you decide to try a set, I%26#039;d vote for the Old Macs!!

Here%26#039;s a Hoof boot guide with all of them on it:

Good Luck!
Reply:I have used old mac... but not Boa... i would recommend old mac boots till i was blue in the face... i also have my horse bare foot... and i use the old macs when we have to do road work... they are expensive here... but well worth it... i%26#039;ve not had a problem with them slipping.. or coming off... but always when i first put them on my horse he doest his first few steps trying to get them off... but calms to them and doesnt get annoyed... the only down side i have come across is one we went thru a stream and they got wet and rubbed on the back of his heal... but since then i have got off and dryed his heels when ever he%26#039;s got wet and not had a prob again... well thats what i have... good luck
Reply:I heard that old mac boots are the best. Or maybe you should try just letting your horse go barefoot.
Reply:I%26#039;m thinking about getting boa boots for my youngster instead of shoeing him, although it depends on how much road/rocky work he%26#039;s going to do as he%26#039;ll be mostly competing (where he won%26#039;t have shoes at all... I think it gives them a better feel of the ground like hands without thick gloves!)

I%26#039;ve heard good things about these boots. Although they%26#039;re very expensive compared to some others, hopefully the price reflects the quality.

I might keep my mare barefoot next year but wear these boots as she goes footsore when she looses a shoe at the moment (shod all her life before I had her). I%26#039;m going to use them like a transition from shoes to barefoot until she%26#039;s used to having no shoes on. That%26#039;s if I can find the money to buy them! Although, even if they last only 6 months I%26#039;d save money on shoeing bills!
Reply:I don%26#039;t have an answer for you, but I am curious why you use boots? Do you use them instead of shoeing or in addition and why?
Reply:thank you for leaving your horse barefoot.

as far as boots go, i too have used the easy boot epics with the gaiters. if they are put on correctly, they should not come off. the clip that is on the boot itself should be difficult to fold down if it is the correct tightness. the gaiter strap should also be a snug fit.
Reply:i would reccomend getting your horses%26#039; feet used to different footing. Start with gravel etc and just get him/her walking on it for short periods of time. (greadually increasing the time being exposed to the different footing)

This will toughen up your horses feet, which has many many advantages!!!! Including not having to put on easy boots, showing and more!

I am looking for knee high, riding style boots with zippers on the outside. Any one know where to find them?

I LOVE my ariats. I bought them from Dover Saddlery about a year ago, and they are amazing. I bought an expensive pair on a good sale price, so maybe you should do the same. Better going with the nicer pair then the cheaper pair in the long run.

Also, if you are still growing, I would suggest getting boots with a little toe room. You can wear thicker socks until your foot grows into them.

Ropers are classic boots that are always in style...Fashion changes but the classics are well just that Classic...

Seriously though wear what is most comfortable.
Reply:Personally I feel comfortable riding in my tennis shoes, some people frown on it. However, i do some difficult trails and have never had a problem so I guess it would be a pesonal choice in what you feel comfortable riding in. If I ride in boots I like my simple cowgirl boots.
Reply:If your riding english everyone is wearing ariats. If your into weatern the most that I%26#039;ve seen is lace ups or justins. It doesn%26#039;t really matter that much.
Reply:The main thing is what you are comfortable with. We ride and train horses I wear Justin lace ups my husband and daughter both prefer the slip ons. Go find the ones you like and are comfortable to you and the heck with what others think and wear. It is your feet
Reply:why are u worring what others are wearing? just find something u like and thats comfortable. find something that fits and is comfortable
Reply:I ride hunt seat and usually wear paddock boots, either zip or lace whichever you prefer with a pair of half chaps. The few times I do ride western, I have a pair of Justin lacers that I wear with my jeans. I also have a pair of Ariat Terrain Lace boots, which are really comfy, to wear around the stable and I ride in them occasionally. Just get something you are comfortable in and something that is approved for riding in. Check out www.statelinetack.com. I usually buy most of my riding gear from them. They have affordable prices on current equipment.
Reply:Ropers or paddock boots are just fine for the casual rider. I prefer 1/2 chaps and paddock boots whenever I am out for a hack or in the arena.
Reply:Buy boots that you like and are going to accommidate what your going to be doing. I always had apair for cleaning and just kicking it and a good pair for serious stuff , like going to shows and riding in parades for fun. Basicly its your preference.
Reply:If you ride English saddle you only need paddock boots and some half-chaps. I love the Ariat brand, but it%26#039;s all personal fit and preference. Definitely go to a tack shop and try on a few different brands. But don%26#039;t feel like you have to break the bank with a pair of competition show boots when all you need are paddock boots. Good luck.
Reply:If your gonna ride english but only for pleasure (ex-trail riding) then you may just wanna get some half chaps instead of breeches. I like the Ariat brand because of just my preferences because they fit my wide feet comfortably but you may wanna go down to the local tack shop and try some different boots on.
Reply:I wear plain lace-ups. I got a nice pair at the tack store for $40 and a cheap pair at walmart for $10. As long as they%26#039;ve got the heel on them, you%26#039;re fine.
Reply:use the ones that ur used to

iv been riding since i was 3
Reply:My vote goes to Ariat. They are a little expensive, but they are the most comfortable and durrable boots I%26#039;ve owned. I own both a pair of zip up paddocks and a pair of pullon ropers. I wear the ropers everyday and am on my feet all day. I love them, my feet never hurt.
Reply:It depends on what you feel comfortable in and how much %26quot;other stuff%26quot; you%26#039;ll be doing. I personally wear Ariat Terrains (the lace up hiking boot types), Ariat Cobalts (their %26quot;professional model%26quot; paddock boot) or my comfy old field boots. If I%26#039;m doing alot of barn chores, I prefer the Terrains. If I%26#039;m going to be teaching, working with students and riding, I do the Cobalts. If I%26#039;m just riding I wear the Cobalts or the field boots. I hope this helps, even though they%26#039;re not %26#039;western%26#039; boots as the other styles are. Have fun getting back into riding.

Wellington boots and horseback riding???

Can you actually ride while wearing Wellington Boots????

Wellington boots and horseback riding???
You can, but they%26#039;re big and clumsy. The safety issue is in the size of the foot; there is some concern that because the foot part of the boot is so big it could become stuck in the stirrup.
Reply:It will work ok but I would get some nice riding boots. Wellington%26#039;s don%26#039;t work very well.
Reply:Hmm... i have but usually only as a spare of the moment thing... like going for a bare back ride and i happen to be wearing my wellies at the time... i have a pair of there...

THEY ROCK

http://www.rosieroo.com.au/products.html
Reply:I know I could by looking at them, but I don%26#039;t want to. :)

I don%26#039;t think they%26#039;d be comfy.
Reply:Well you could do but they are nowhere near as comfortable as riding boots. The tops tend to be so wide that they kind of flop about. Also they tend to be wide in the foot part so don%26#039;t fit the stirrups as well. I don%26#039;t know of any accident involving them but the local riding school banned them suddenly about 5 - 6 years ago and the only explanation given was %26quot;safety reasons%26quot; I never enquired further as it didn%26#039;t actually affect me.
Reply:Aji said it, you CAN do it, but its not very fun.

also, if they are not up to your knee, don%26#039;t jump with them! the lip of the boot can get stuck on your saddle flap and your boot will fall off/you leg will break.

it happened to someone i know, and it wasn%26#039;t pleasant for her!
Reply:I don%26#039;t know if you mean the big rubbery things or the rubber riding boots sold in tack catalogues. I use the rubber riding boots %26#039;cause... they%26#039;re comfortable, and they are waterproof if I have to wade through mud or water. I guess you could ride with the bulkier boot but I don%26#039;t think you would be able to cue your horse as well.
Reply:yes for the first year or so . if you ride for more than once a week get riding boots as constantly wearing wellies can rub the horses side and its alot harder to get a decent riding position
Reply:Yes....rubber boots are not as fun to ride in because it is so much harder to get your heel down, but you can.
Reply:ive never tried riding in wellingtons, but i like Ariats the best. once they are broken in, they are rally nice to walk and ride in. ive ridden in them since i first started so i might just be used to them.

also the barn that i ride at doesnt like when the riders wear anything other than Ariats to ride (they heavily frown upon it)
Reply:lol, yeah! I had to borrow some in Ireland for our last XC ride because I left my riding boots at the previous stables. It took a few minutes to get used to, but then I totally forgot about them...they%26#039;re not as comfortable, but you can definitely ride in them.
Reply:I rode in them for years. Not very comfortable, but you can.
Reply:You shouldn%26#039;t, it is unsafe because the sole has more grip and no heel at the back- therefore there is more chance of getting your foot stuck in the stirrup.

What kind of boots for horseback riding?

I%26#039;m going to horse camp this summer, and I need boots. However, I don%26#039;t want boots that I could only wear for riding as I%26#039;ve never horseback rided before and don%26#039;t know if I%26#039;ll ever use them again. Are there any alternates for the boots or will I have to buy them? How much should I expect to pay?

What kind of boots for horseback riding?
If you%26#039;re concerned about price, it%26#039;s possible to get knee-high riding boots for quite decent prices (something like thirty dollars) on ebay (searching for vintage shoes in one%26#039;s own size seems to do the trick).

You could also try paddock boots, which are only about ankle high. Lower end ones cost about thirty to forty dollars new. They don%26#039;t really look much street shoes sold today, but I love them dearly anyway. They look sort of cool and retro and eighties.
Reply:Get some boots that have heels. When I ride, I wear cowboy boots. The heel needs to be big enough so that your foot won%26#039;t slip through the stirrup. If you want a really good pair of cowboy boots, you can plan on spending quite a bit. I would check online, and see if you can find anything there. The Sportman%26#039;s Guide usually has boots for pretty cheap. However, you should try some one before you order them, because boots sizes and shoe sizes aren%26#039;t always the same.

How much should i pay for a use pair of red and black mid condition O'NEAL riding boots?

Just go onto ebay and have a look at what the same sort of boot goes for second hand as there are usually a lot of used boots on there. I always sell the boots my boys have grown out of on ebay and they usually sell for quite a bit as most people I think are a bit silly as I would not buy a second hand pair!

How much should i pay for a use pair of red and black mid condition O%26#039;NEAL riding boots?
DEPENDS On how much they sell for
Reply:Just buy a new pair ............. cough ........ tight ......... cough.

Can a beginner English rider just wear jeans and tennis shoes? Or should they have breeches and riding boots?

AT LEAST riding boots, they%26#039;re for safety. i would also recommend breeches to prevent chafing, but they ARE optional.

Can a beginner English rider just wear jeans and tennis shoes? Or should they have breeches and riding boots?
i am an english rider and in the winter i ride in jeans, so they are fine. but u do need shoes with a heel so if something happens and ur foot slips in there (the heel helps keep u from getting ur foot stuck) but breeches or jeans are fine. really u could probably use sweat pants
Reply:The breeches or jodphurs aren%26#039;t so important although I would wear joggers rather than jeans because the inside of your thighs will chaffe on the seams of the jeans. For footwear tennis shoes are definatly not ok. You need a shoe with a heel and preferable a bit of ankle support. Wellies are also a bad idea. The reason for this is if you ride in shoes without a heel, especially for a beginner, your foot can slide forwards in the stirrup and could get caught if anything went wrong leaving you being dragged. If you wear boots with a small heel then they can%26#039;t slide through the stirrups.

If you are worried about the cost of boots then you can buy rubber long boots for about £20 or else jodphur boots, which are short ankle boots for about the same from most tack shops. Yes there are boots costing £100+ but you don%26#039;t need those the cheap ones will be fine for just now.
Reply:Any pants are ok. Definitely boots. Tennis shoes offer no protection for your feet!
Reply:Jeans are absolutely fine. I took English lessons before Western, because that%26#039;s what was available to me, and I wore Wranglers and a pair of Justin work boots (not steel toed of course) and never had a bit of problem. Yes, any pair of footware with a heel on it, obviously don%26#039;t be stupid and wear dress shoes, etc. You want a nice pair of boots or the shoes made for horseback riding. There is a reason they make them, and it ain%26#039;t for looks alone. I actually showed in my first English show in my Wranglers, workboots and a sweatshirt. Boy did I get some nasty looks from the high and mighty English riders in their little breeches, knee high riding boots, little coats and fancy helmets!! I didn%26#039;t care, I got second place overall and second place in the obstacle course. I no longer ride English and that was about 7 years ago, but it was pretty fun making all the prissys mad :))
Reply:Riding boots are a must for safety as is your riding helmet. Jeans are ok but won%26#039;t be as comfortable as breeches.
Reply:You can wear jeans, but you really want boots.

You can tuck jeans into your boots, and it keeps them from riding up, but if you%26#039;re just wearing tennis shoes, then your pants will ride up. It doesn%26#039;t sound bad, but when you%26#039;re trotting along, learning how to post, you don%26#039;t have time to say, %26quot;Excuse me a minute%26quot; and pull your pantleg down. It becomes a pain quickly.

If you are going to wear tennis shoes, try tying your pantleg down, or tucking into a large sock.

I always wore boots, but only wore riding breeches during competitions. Weekdays it was jeans.
Reply:riding boots deff, but you could go in streachy trousers, but not jeans. you want to look at least like you have half a brain for riding. (no offence but these girls at my yard used to wear jeans and trainers and they looked like hairbrained idiots. its all about judgement in this game and if people think you look scruffy, you wont get asked back.)

:D
Reply:Riding in jeans and tennis shoes aren%26#039;t comfortable or safe at all.

I would suggest wearing breeches and riding boots since it%26#039;s your best bet when it comes to comfort and safety. If you don%26#039;t like tall boots just get paddock or anything with a heal that you could wear with half chaps.
Reply:You can wear jeans, but I really recomend that you wear boots because if a horse is to step on your foot it can help protect your feat better. Now at the stables I ride at I have seen some people wear tennis shoes and my riding instructor said that next time they should wear boots. And my riding instructor has many, many degrees in horse stuff like that.
Reply:You can wear jeans, but I agree with everyone else, you really should wear some type of boot with a small heel. When I started english riding lessons I actually wore wrangler jeans and cowboy boots for the first few months! That was all I had at home, and they worked fine. The jeans do tend to ride up your legs a little, and they might rub but they are just fine for beginning. Also, beginners will be working on walk / trot stuff for a while so the jeans won%26#039;t rub that bad, and if you decide you want to continue lessons you can buy breeches or half chaps to keep your legs from getting rubbed by faster paced lessons. I hope this helps and have fun!
Reply:yu can wear jeans but trainers are dangerous, your foot can easily fall through the stirrup, thats why a heal would be more safer and easy..wear wellys...x
Reply:Jeans or any trousers would be okay but you need boots with a low and defined heel. Tennis shoes, trainers etc are normally not allowed as they can slip through the stirrup too easily and get trapped.

If you chose to wear short boots you%26#039;d probably want half chaps as well as they will stop the trouser legs from riding up and also protect your legs from being pinched in the stirrup leathers ( that really hurts)
Reply:any level rider can wear jeans , i do all the time, but you need some sort of boot. it should hav a heel but not a huge one.your feet can slip right out of the stirrup if you wear sneakers. uh oh
Reply:Jeans are alright, sneakers are not. Even construction boots should be fine, as long as they have a heel (and fit in the stirrup). Just be careful with the jeans, the inside seams can get irritating. If you ride hard, the seams can rub layers of your skin off (learned the hard way...). Halfchaps would be a good idea, but make sure you fold your jeans over underneath them so the seam is anywhere BUT where you make contact with the horse. Otherwise, you%26#039;ll get a lovely scar like I do!
Reply:i have been riding for years and i wear jeans as much as i can. BUT you really do need to get boots! it isnt just for apparel they are for safety. not only too keep your foot from sliding all the way through but if you start to fall off, the bottoms on tennis shoes may not let your foot slide off and you could be drug.
Reply:Always ride in riding boots. snickets can get caught if you fall and you can be dragged or kicked. also you can not get a proper seat with out being able to put your heals down.
Reply:you def cant ride in sneakers, you need a shoe with a heel for your safety...so your foot cant slip through the stirrup

you can ride in jeans...but the stirrup leathers tend to pinch your calves! so i%26#039;d try some half or full chaps of you dont want to wear breeches =)
Reply:jeans are sort of okay for awhile, though you will need to get breaches or jodpurs really soon, especially when you start cantering and jumping. You really should go find some boots (paddock or tall ones) b/c tennis shoes have alot of tread on the bottom of them and ur foot can get stuck in the stirrups. You want your foot to be able to get off the stirrup if the horse takes off or something. Half chaps are also great w/ jeans, or full chaps. I would seriously recommend getting some cheap breaches and some paddock boots and half chaps. it is really worth it and you can find some at affordable prices.
Reply:I wear capris and tennis shoes but thats for now. And please dont thumbs down me for wearing the wrong things . its my decision not yours and the instructor said it was ok. FOR NOW.
Reply:i would deffidently recommend riding boots.

But i ride English with jeans. Although you might want to wear chaps over top of them to prevent the saddle from rubbing.
Reply:NO NO NO NO NO!!!

Never ride in tennis shoes!!!!

If you cannot afford riding boots, at least go to Wal-Mart or similar store and check the clearance rack for winter boots with minimal tread! Right now you can get them for $10 - $15.

I will not take a beginner who is not wearing boots of some sort!

AND NO STEEL TOED BOOTS! If a horse steps on your foot, the steel in the boot will bend and could cut your toes off!

Oh yeah, jeans are fine as long as they are not too tight or too baggy!
Reply:You cannot wear tennis shoes...you HAVE to wear a shoe with a 1 and a half inch heel. This is so that it prevents your foot from sliding all the way through the stirrup (so basically, safety reasons).

If you decide to wear jeans, you should also wear half-chaps. This is to help you %26quot;grip%26quot; with your calf and protect your leg from the rash that the inseam from the jeans will leave on your leg from riding.

QUestion from my friend:Can you wear half chaps with tall riding boots (English)??

I already told her my answer, but she wants another opinion. Thanks!

QUestion from my friend:Can you wear half chaps with tall riding boots (English)??
I am thinking that you mean can you wear half chaps over the top of tall boots (either dress or field boots). The answer to that is yes, but it would be ridiculous to do so. The purpose of half chaps (or gaitors/gators depending on where you live) is to give you a similar feel and grip as riding in tall boots. So to put them on top of tall boots would be pointless. The could actually damage your tall boots if the half chaps are made out of rough suede by causing rubs.

So, either the half chaps with paddock or other shorter boots or wear tall boots. Not both of them together at the same time.

If they want to have half chaps that look like tall boots, they do make those and sell them so that if you have black short boots that are polished up when used with these types of half chaps it looks just like tall boots until you get right up on top of them.

Hope that helps.
Reply:There is no reason to. Hunt ot field boots are tall and go up to right under the knees, and are designed to create a close contact with the horse and saddle, and protect your calves from getting pinched when jumping. Half chaps are designed for the same purpose, without the expense of the tall boots, and can be worn with jodpher (short ankle) boots.

Pro trainer and instructor
Reply:You could if you really wanted to but thats really weird.
Reply:No, that would be stupid.
Reply:You can but you really don%26#039;t need to. Half chaps are designed to support your leg like tall boots so it would not really make sense to wear them together. I guess you could though if you%26#039;re thinking you want to keep your tall boots clean or something.
Reply:You can if you like, but there really isn%26#039;t a point. If you%26#039;re wearing tall boots you shouldn%26#039;t have to wear half chaps.
Reply:That is the most ridiculous thing I ever heard! That%26#039;s like wearing your underwear over your pants... What purpose would it serve? LOL
Reply:I suppose you could but I can%26#039;t imagine why you would want to. Besides, the zipper and seams might really scratch up your boots.
Reply:you arn%26#039;t supposed to... and even if you did your half chaps probably wouldn%26#039;t fit aroud your tall boots.
Reply:Of course you can, but why would you want to? The need for wearing half chaps is eliminated when wearing tall riding boots. Your friend will look foolish. But to each his own.
Reply:You can. But there%26#039;s no reason because the purpose of half chaps is to wear them with paddock boots. Most peole ride in paddock boots while training, because they%26#039;re more comfortable. You wear half chaps with the short boots to keep your pants from riding up and to not ruin your breeches, and there%26#039;s the added bonus of extra grip!

I%26#039;ve never heard of someone wearing half caps with tall boots! Just tell your friend that it%26#039;s impratical!
Reply:Well you could do but I don%26#039;t see why you%26#039;d want to. Half chaps are intended to be worn with short boots to protect the lower leg from chaffing on the saddle. ( Also I know a lot of people wear them when they ride in jeans as it stops the leg part riding up or spinning around - some of these are professional riders so hey ho !)
Reply:No, why would you want to? Half-chaps are an extension of the paddock boots, so if you are wearing tall boots why would you need them?
Reply:Tall riding boots that go up to the knee? Half chaps are not designed to be worn with tall boots.

Half chaps are designed to be worn with short boots that go up to just past the ankle.
Reply:Nooo... Why on earth would she even want to? Half chaps are made to be with short boots only. That would totally defeat the purpose of spending all that money on tall boots lol.
Reply:you can certainly do it although it defeats the point of half chaps...half chaps are mostly used with paddock boots because you want to be able to get in and out of the riding apparel quickly and without the hassle of tall boots. also, they enable you to ride without having to wear britches.
Reply:Uh i don%26#039;t think so.. half chaps are meant more for paddock boots. If ur wearing tall boots there shouldn%26#039;t be much rubbing. But if ur friend wants to.. i guess no one%26#039;s gonna stop her.
Reply:well..no.you shouldnt need them cuz the boots would do that purpose.but you could use full chaps
Reply:lol..funny question!..of course...in riding..it doesnt matter what you wear..for training..(well..not in england anyways) and most people dont care what they look like..I know theres a fashion..but..is it really that important.

Unless you mean for dressage or show etc..wear WHATEVER you want. That combo sounds fine..especially for a sunny day :]
Reply:Of course you can! They even sell half chaps just for that purpose! Look on different websites that sell riding apparel and you will see! Well i hope this helps!

How can I get my feet to stop hurting inside my riding boots?

I walk around all day at the barn, and even though I wear two layers of socks, my feet still hurt!

How can I get my feet to stop hurting inside my riding boots?
Invest in a great pair of boots. I have a pair of Ariats that have lasted forever through everything %26amp; they still feel awesome - even after riding a lot.
Reply:You may need to get arch support inserts. A physiotherapist may be able to make recommendations, either that or a shoe store that specializes in fitting shoes correctly.
Reply:Well, maybe you should stop wearing two pairs. Invest in a pair of 400-600 Dollars boots, they are well worth it.
Reply:Get a size bigger!

Is it possible to rent horseback riding clothes and boots?

I am going to a sleep away camp over the summer, for four weeks. I am doing horseback riding lessons twice a week at the camp. However, the camp requires proper riding equipment (A helmet, boots, and those pants things), which I won%26#039;t use after camp, as I live in city with hardly any riding, and I am not that dedicated to it anyway. Is it possible to rent equipment for the four weeks?

It is so expensive to have to buy all that stuff.

Is it possible to rent horseback riding clothes and boots?
The answer is yes. There are several websites where you can rent horse clothes. However, keep in mind that these rentals are usually for riders who show but can%26#039;t afford the cloths and therefor the clothing rental itself is expensive, plus the renters will expect them back in excellent condition (no dirt stains I%26#039;m afraid). Overall I really don%26#039;t suggest it.

A better avenue would probably be to look into resell. If you are only going to be using them for a short time and never intend to use them again condition, quality and brand-name aren%26#039;t very important. Something basic and cheap should do as long as it looks comfy. I%26#039;d try e-bay or amazon. Also, try contacting the camp and asking if they know of any place to get cloths cheap, they probably have plenty of campers with the same problem.

(P.S. the only thing you really don%26#039;t want to skimp on is the helmet. Pants that are a little loose or boots a pinch tight are bearable for a few weeks, but safety comes first and I would spend the money on a quality helmet)
Reply:If you go to a store that sells horse equipment like you are looking for some let you rent also. My friend rents all the time!!
Reply:i%26#039;ve never heard of being able to rent helmets boots and jod/breeches and for health reasons i hope you can%26#039;t.. go to a tack store and get yourself measured and fitted and then look on ebay... you really only need a riding helmet you should be able to ride in jeans (although they might cause rubs on your legs) and a good pair of shoes with a heel.. have your parents call the camp. they might have helmets that you can use.

EDIT someone suggested a bike helmet! a bike helmet WILL NOT protect you if you fall from a horse!! that is a VERY bad idea and the camp will not allow you to ride in a bike helmet!
Reply:You could just ask your tack shop. Maybe you can return the lightly used gear within the amount of time they%26#039;ll allow returns, or maybe they%26#039;ll have consignment gear that has been used and is cheaper.

Also, I would encourage you to stick with horseback riding after camp, the benefits are enormous!
Reply:I haven%26#039;t heard of renting, but many tack shops have a consignment section where you can buy used clothes/boots for WAY less than new. That%26#039;s where I buy all my 7 year old%26#039;s boots and pants since he%26#039;ll outgrow them quickly (just like the previous owner, so they%26#039;re still in great shape). You should probably get a new helmet, though, since you%26#039;ll never know if it%26#039;s safety has been compromised with a fall before. You can get a Troxel Sport for $25 or less.
Reply:Im not sure about renting...that would be neat for other people, will you be riding western or english? I know nothing about western (sorry) but in english I dont think you can do that, but for a helmate a bicycle helmate should work, the pants are breches or (english) riding pants, you should be allowed to use jeans, you should also be able to use rain boots for boots, anything with a heel, if you cant use these things, go to petsmart wiht a stateline tack in it, never mind i was going to find a site with all the locations, but i just read they have been taken out of all petsmarts! that sucks!!! I dont live near one, but anytime we are near one we go in and get a bunch of stuff! urg! anyways you can go to tack stores and try the stuff on, but look for them on sale, and explain to the store owner what your looking for and for what! but the jeans, rain boots, and bicycle helmates should be ok, but contact the camp, probably the onlything they may not like is the helmate, which really arnt that expensive!

GOOD LUCK!!!!
Reply:nope. that i kno of.

How do you break in new English tall riding boots?

wear them for a while

How do you break in new English tall riding boots?
put them on,

fill the tub,

stand in the tub until the boots are completly saturated,

drain the tub,

go for a walk and dont come back until the boots are dry.

it works for hiking boots.
Reply:Pee in them and leave them for a couple of days.
Reply:just get used to them
Reply:wear them! If they need to stretch a little to be comfortable you can put some rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle and spray the insides of the boots and then wear them for a little bit. Take them off and let any last bits of the alcohol evaporate. wait a while and do it again, wearing them just till it starts to bother you and then taking them off.
Reply:suck it up and wear them all the time or go to a leather worker or alteration guy and have them stretched

I have a new pair of tall riding boots. is their a product that will help me break them in fast?

Sure!

Go and buy som Saddle Soap. Take a cotton cloth and wet it. Follow the directions on the can and apply several times and it will soften the leather as well as provide protection from water and sun.

Good luck!

For softening -- saddle soap and working the leather.

There are other products like Lexol for conditioning leather, but in the end this old-timer works the best. If your riding boots are for riding, you%26#039;re already in a leather environment. Ask your tack handler what they use.

Is a man wearning knee high flat riding boots with skinny jeans ok? or a real no - no?

I Dont care

Is a man wearning knee high flat riding boots with skinny jeans ok? or a real no - no?
I know the fashion police say it%26#039;s a NO NO, but I love that look. Some people look at me strange when I wear knee boots and skinny jeans, but who cares. Personally I wear women%26#039;s skinny jeans and women%26#039;s knee boots. Are your%26#039;s men%26#039;s or women%26#039;s jeans and boots?
Reply:can you say gay?
Reply:It%26#039;s ok if girls wear it but not guys.
Reply:i dont think its ok. i dont think boys should wear skinny jeans ever
Reply:im trying to picture that and it doesn%26#039;t look that good.
Reply:If its what makes you comfortable then its okay. Fashion wise i would say thats a BIG no no for a guy for a girl its cool and maybe if your gay its cool straight guys really shouldnt wear it.

Do you think black leggings, brown riding boots and a dark blue tunic will look bad together?

:)

Do you think black leggings, brown riding boots and a dark blue tunic will look bad together?
yeah. brown and black dont match. and the whole outfit would be too dark.
Reply:i don%26#039;t think so. i would wear it
Reply:yup.
Reply:I don%26#039;t like the brown riding boots and black legging idea. Be careful when you mix those two colors. If the brown is a goldy brown then it will be fine. Just don%26#039;t do it if it is a chocolate brown or other dark brown. It would look bad.

Hope this helps.
Reply:nope, it sounds fine
Reply:yes the colours are too similar. if they clashed eg orange red and purple, it would still look cool. those colours are too samey
Reply:i think so... i just don%26#039;t like the brown riding boots with that.. i don%26#039;t think i will look good with the blue and black.. try different shoes i think that would make it look better
Reply:no. i would wear that.
Reply:Any two of those colors could work, but not all three
Reply:depends on the color blue
Reply:It sounds cute, but be careful mixing brown and black together, especially if they are similar shades.

If you know what size you wear, eBay. I recommend going to a used tack store where you can get some really good tack, clothes, etc. for a really cheap price.
